Last year, representatives of the Rotary Club met with representatives of the Wooster Kiwanis Club and the Noon Lions Club to develop an annual combined project for the betterment of the Wooster community. Last year’s project was the “Manse on College Avenue”, sponsored by the Wayne County Mental Health Coalition. Teams of Rotarians, Kiwanians and Lions met over several weekends to work on the house to make it suitable for occupancy. The project was such a huge success that we are going to continue in 2010 – 2011. Here are the basic facts:
- To be sure that we have looked at all potential opportunities, we are going public and asking for suggestions from all interested parties through an application process.
- The application will be on all three club web sites.
- We will be supported by the Daily Record (thanks to Editor Lance White) in getting the word out with a series of articles.
- The deadline for the applications is July 30, 2010, after which a panel of judges – including the three Club Presidents – will select the finalists by mid-August.
- The finalists will be invited to make a presentation to each Club in late August or early September. Daily Record & Clear Picture will be invited to cover the presentations.
- The general public will be given the opportunity to vote for their favorite project on the Daily Record website. Displays of the finalists will be set up at the Daily Record Booth at the Wayne County Fair.
- Four votes will determine the winning project. One from each Club and one from the on-line voting. In case of a tie the Club Presidents will select the winner.
- The winning project will be announced at a joint club assembly in early October. Robb Hyde (Wayne Center for the Arts) is working with us again to develop an entertaining program for the assembly.
