Honor Flight Columbus

The Rotary Parade of Flag program began in 2009 as an effort to foster community pride and service.  As part of the program, we are promoting the participation in Honor Flight Columbus to WWII veterans, Korean War veterans (those who served between June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1950), and terminally ill veterans of any war.

The Mission of Honor Flight Columbus is to:
  • Honor our nation’s senior veterans with a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit their war memorials at no cost to them
  • Share their stories for the benefit of future generations
  • Celebrate their homecoming, affirming their allegiance and service to our country
Honor Flight Columbus provides flights and tours to Washington DC to visit memorials dedicated to their important service.  Each veteran is accompanied by guardians to escort them on their “trip of a lifetime”. The all-expense paid, one-day trips occur April to November.  Part of the revenue from the Rotary Parade of Flags is being donated to cover some of “out-of pocket” costs, such as parking and overnight accommodations for the night before the flight. Veterans are flown on a “first-come, first-serve” basis with top priority given to World War II veterans and all other veterans with terminal illnesses.
